About

This tour is perfect for those seeking a compact yet insightful overview of Cape Town’s CBD. The experience begins and ends at two historically significant locations and provides an authentic connection to a part of Cape Town that often carries a specific image. Discover the true Cape Town by exploring its history, literature, and small local businesses, which shape a remarkable city recognised as one of the world’s best places to live, Africa’s premier tourist destination, and a leading hub for food and art.

The tour includes water, coffee, and chocolate. Any other food purchases along the way will be at your own expense.

Tour Highlights

On this walking tour, you will explore historically significant spaces and gain insights into the socio-cultural realities of post-Apartheid Cape Town by examining its colonial past and the key events that have shaped its often-misunderstood city centre:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of Cape Town’s colonial history and how it has influenced the city’s multicultural and multi-religious character, fostering a strong sense of community despite its contrasts.
  • Many visitors ask, “What should I read to understand South Africa better?” We love books, so we’ll take you to our favourite bookstore, where you’ll receive a brief introduction to South African literature, ranging from food writing and history to politics, fiction, and self-help. We’ll provide recommendations tailored to your interests.
  • Cape Town is a foodie capital. Although this isn’t a food tour, we’ll offer a brief introduction to why Cape Town is a haven for coffee, chocolate, and spices, just to give you a flavour.
